{"id":1,"date":"2017-12-06T00:00:52","date_gmt":"2017-12-06T00:00:52","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.burningimage.net\/cattrack\/?p=1"},"modified":"2023-07-22T07:56:57","modified_gmt":"2023-07-22T06:56:57","slug":"whats-cattrack","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.burningimage.net\/cattrack\/whats-cattrack\/","title":{"rendered":"What&#8217;s CatTrack?"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>Unsatisfied with the GPS trackers available on the market, I decided to design my own. \u00a0This site follows my\u00a0component-level design and build of an ultra-low-power wireless cat tracker.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>A few years ago we got some cats &#8211; Buttons and Turnip! \u00a0Buttons is the big tabby cat and that&#8217;s Turnip, below.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-27\" src=\"https:\/\/www.burningimage.net\/cattrack\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/06\/img_0136-300x225.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"225\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.burningimage.net\/cattrack\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/06\/img_0136-300x225.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.burningimage.net\/cattrack\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/06\/img_0136-768x576.jpg 768w, https:\/\/www.burningimage.net\/cattrack\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/06\/img_0136-1024x768.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/www.burningimage.net\/cattrack\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/06\/img_0136-1440x1080.jpg 1440w, https:\/\/www.burningimage.net\/cattrack\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/06\/img_0136.jpg 2048w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>I would imagine that every cat-owning Engineer has at one point or another wondered about either buying or making a tracker for their cat so they can see what he or she gets up to after\u00a0they jump over the garden wall.<\/p>\n<p>Turnip isn&#8217;t like most cats. \u00a0There&#8217;s no need to make or buy a tracker for her because she hasn&#8217;t left the garden in 3 years. \u00a0Well, she did end up in next door&#8217;s garden once, but I got the impression from the noises she was making that it was incompetence that caused her to end up there, rather than a desire to be more than 10 feet away from her bed.<\/p>\n<p>Buttons however, would benefit from a tracker. \u00a0Although he doesn&#8217;t disappear for days at a time like some cats, he is often nowhere to be seen, only to turn up a few hours later covered in cobwebs or some other kind of grime.<\/p>\n<p>As you can read in my\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.burningimage.net\/cattrack\/about-me\/\">About Me<\/a>\u00a0page, I&#8217;ve got a fair bit of experience with electronic\u00a0design. \u00a0 It&#8217;s been my job for the last 10 years. \u00a0None of the cat trackers on the market fitted my needs (as I&#8217;ll explain in a separate post) so I decided to design and build one that&#8217;s much better than anything you can buy!
