I am working on this, it is odd because it works fine for some users on XP/2k and it doesn't work for others.

If it doesn't work could you do me a favour and do a search for files named: winhttp*.dll in Search > For Files or Folders and tell me what it comes back with?

Regards

XP Pro

I am using windows xp pro. The error is caused by a missing dll file.
Here is a quick fix which did work for me...

1. Grab the dll file from http://www.pipeboost.com/downloads/winhttp5.dll
Thats just version 5. I couldnt find 5.1 on google or MS site.

2. Copy the dll file to your system32 folder
3. Register the dll with Start->Run and type regsvr32 winhttp5.dll (the registration was successful on my first try.. so i dont know what possible errors are and workarounds)
4. Now try to log in to msn. A different error occured which says " No such Com 'auth' open (line 50, msnauth.mrc)". Ignore the error
5. Comment the lines 41 and 42 in msnauth script. The lines are
.hdel msnauth url
.hdel msnauth path
which is inside msnauth2
6. Now try signing in again. For me it worked. I still do get the line 50 error, but i was able to sign in and chat

btw, whats the difference between .hdel and hdel?

did you comment out line 41 and 42?

line 64 and 65 also look exactly the same. but should __not__ be commented.. only 41 and 42 need be.

Try closing mirc and signing in again thru dialog box (ie. not thru /msnstart )

Yeah I also get the line 50 error. but it works fine.
I think line 50 error is occuring after the authorisation stage has fnished. It ocurs because in line 80 of msnauth, alias msnauths2 returns after closing auth like:
80: if ($com(auth)) { .comclose auth }

from there it gets returned to line 50 inside msnauth2 which tries to use auth but it was closed in line 80.

Well thats what i think is happening....can someone correct me if i am wrong?

i still idle on "connecting...
