client freezing when logging in

Hi there.
Every time i login and retrieve my MSN contact list the mIRC client will instantly freeze and i have to reboot the application. I installed it as instructed but it just wont work. I have no prior experience debugging mirc scripts (crashes) so I'm kinda lost and i hope you can help me out
Not entirely sure what kinda info you need, but here's a start >
Windows XP SP3 Pro
mIRC 6.34 and the newest MSN for mIRC

Not sure why this is, but I know the bit that it happens on. It could be that one of your contacts has a character in their name that confuses the sorting function of the script or something.
Is there any way you can try another account, with a different contact list?
If you untick "sort by group" in the control panel (/msncontrol) it shouldn't freeze anymore, which kind of gets round the problem until I can work out what it is!

Created a new account and tried adding a few guys without any special characters in the name. It still freezes

D'oh.
Would you be able to send me a couple of files, just so that I can simulate your setup and see what may be going on?
If you type in mIRC:
could you send me the files "groups.grp", "allusers.txt" as well as the whole "groups" folder in that directory?
This will allow me to simulate your setup and see if it freezes on my test setup.
Note that these files contain information about your contact list (only email addresses and display names) so probably best to email them to me at
andy@burningimage.net.
If you can do that it'd be a great help.

Yep got it.
Bad news though, is that I simulated your contact list in my mIRC and it didn'tlock up at all.
Sorry to keep getting you do type stuff, but if you could type:
and then disconnect and reconnect to MSN in mIRC, then paste me the contents of the Messenger window in an email? That'll tell me when it was doing when it locked up.
In order to stop the script once it has frozen your PC, hit Ctrl-Break. That'll also tell you the line number it locked up on which would be a great help.

Pressing ctrl+break stops it from freezing and it now works.. ill paste the debug here though. Removed my contacts.

The contacts was the bit I wanted unfortunately! I'd like to see if it sends any other kind of bizarre info with the contacts that messes the script up.
Did it give a line number that the script had frozen on when you pressed ctrl-break?

Cool thanks.
Did you manage to see the line that it stops at when you hit ctrl-break by the way? It'll say under the Status tab in mIRC after you've hit ctrl-break.

I wonder if this will help. In mIRC, type:
//run $mircdir $+ msn
Then close mIRC, delete msn.mrc and replace it with the one I've attached to this post.
Then try reconnecting to MSN. It may not lock up anymore. Then again it might!
